Glaucoma causes progressive and irreversible damage to the optic nerve and is one of the leading causes of vision loss or blindness. Thankfully, it is also a highly treatable condition when diagnosed early.
We use the current standard of care testing to help differentially diagnose, track, and treat glaucoma. Glaucoma is a silent disease which means it has no symptoms and the loss of vision often goes unnoticed until the disease is quite advanced. Glaucoma is also a progressive disease that requires ongoing monitoring and adjustments to the treatment approach. There are an array of treatment methods used including surgery such as selective laser trabeculoplasty, tube and valve procedures and topical medications. With proper treatment vision loss from glaucoma can be halted or minimized. Drs Evans and Shahriari are experienced at the medical management of glaucoma and Dr. Shaaf is experienced at surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma. Having medical, surgical and laser treatment available along with experienced doctors allows us to ensure that patients with glaucoma get optimum care.
We are committed to providing the latest in glaucoma diagnostic advances that not only allow us to diagnose earlier but to intervene appropriately for those patients with ongoing care. 60% of glaucoma patients develop dry eye over their lifetime and with our emphasis on dry eye management we can often manage this effectively with preservative free glaucoma medication, with multi-dose drops (less medication) along with surgery and laser treatment of glaucoma.
We also treat other eye diseases such as macular degeneration.
