Worn only at night, this lens corrects daytime vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses. OrthoK Lenses work by reshaping the cornea to decrease shortsightedness and are a safe, painless alternative to surgery.
This lens is used to treat Keratoconus, a degenerative condition that causes the cornea to bulge and thin, resulting in distorted vision, double vision, and significant visual impairment. These lenses work by replacing the distorted irregular corneal surface with a smooth refracting surface. We offer many versions of these, each tailored to the individual corneal and refractive condition. With over 70 years experience at fitting contact lenses and doctors who have fit thousands of specialty cases, we have both the technology and ability to help. We offer many new designs such as scleral hard and hybrid scleral soft Kone designs. We also have RoseK, GBL, RGP lenses along with custom keratoconus designs.
This lens is a hybrid. The lenses vault the cornea and have a soft skirt that rides on the conjunctiva. Due to the rigid central portion the lenses provide very high definition vision. The stabilizing effect of the soft skirt allows them to be used as an astigmatic lens, multifocal (bifocal) platform as well as the correction for Keratoconus.
This lens is used for patients that have post surgical outcomes where the central portion of the lens is flatter than the periphery. (We actually call this a “donut” shaped cornea with the central portion being the hole in the donut). Reverse geometry lenses improve the irregular refraction caused by central flattening. They can also be used (along with other lenses) for some corneal conditions of irregularity like Terrians marginal dystrophy.
Dry Eye Lenses
We have a number of new designs that are not commonly used such as Miru-1 a hyaluronate-gel lens or Biotrue. Both of these monomers are new and both have very flat dehydration slopes. That means the lenses from morning to night lose very little of their moisture (less than 2% versus most lenses 4-8%). These lenses work particularly well in our desert environment.
Scleral Lenses vault the cornea. Not surprisingly they are very comfortable. The lenses can be used for both regular and irregular corneas as well as treatment of dry eye. Scleral Lenses require special insertion and removal technique as the lens baths or hydrates the cornea. This property is why the lens is so comfortable as well as why the lenses are used to manage dry eye cases. Each lens requires an individualized fitting.

Disposable contact lenses are generally considered to be far superior in comfort and wearability than hard and rigid lenses.
A routine exam won’t provide some of the measurements and testing that are required to determine if your eyes are suitable for contact lens wear, and to generate your contact lens Rx.
Fortunately for those who don’t like the look, feel or inconvenience of reading glasses, there is another option. Bifocal and multifocal lenses are also available in contact lenses in both soft and rigid varieties.
These rigid lenses aren’t as popular or well-known as soft lenses, but they offer the advantages of durability, crisp vision and high oxygen permeability.
Challenges such as astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus and dry eyes needn’t be a barrier to contact lens wear, but they do require more time and patience.
