Bandage contact lenses for healing, pain and corneal protection

Therapeutic bandage contact lenses can be successfully used in the management of a variety of corneal diseases. Most patients think of them as being used for the correction of refractive errors.  They are also used for corneal disease.

Contact lenses have been used  for the following:

  • recurrent corneal erosion
  • corneal perforation or laceration
  • bullous keratopathy
  • epithelial defects due to trauma or chemical burn
  • post penetrating keratoplasty

Amazing that something that weights about the same as a drop of water, is about 100 microns thick and is transparent can be a powerful a tool in treating eye pain and healing.
